I managed to add a Like Button and a Facebook Comment on my google site.

To do so I had to develop a custom Google Gadget that embeds the javascript code.

That's not so complex.

What was less simple, was to find the code to get the page url where the gadget is embedded.

I found it on stackoverflow (thanks to Vaibhav) :

When I was young, having a Peugeot bicycle was the top. Than the distributor (in Dion) closed its doors. There was the Montain Bike boom and Peugeot wasn't there. There was a revival in road bikes. Still no Peugeot.

And now, 20 years later, Peugeot come back. In the mean time I have bought 5 bicycles...

Converting html to text in php with html2text - Removing the link list

I have been using the PHP class html2text recently.

It's a great class but I wanted to get rid of the link list at the end of the conversion.

So I modified the php class.

You just need to call the method disableLinkList() before converting :

    $h2t =& new html2text($html);
    $h2t->disableLinkList();
    $text = $h2t->get_text();

In the Vlerick Corporate Partnership Magazine of September 11' I was
surprised to read the following :

"The ultimate goal of Enterprise Architecture is to implement a
business strategy with an IT roadmap" Joachim Vanden Brande, Loqutus.

With all respect I have to Joachim (I know him a little bit) I
disagree with that statement : Entreprise Architecture is about the
Entreprise, not about IT. Otherwise it's called IT architecture.

To me EA is also applicable to companies which have no IT. All
enterprises have an architecture regardless of the use of IT.
Enterprises of the middle ages had an enterprise architecture.

The mix between IT and Enterprise Architecture has 2 main causes:
- IT has methods and techniques that strongly connect with the
enterprise. IT has user repositories, IT knows about all locations to
protect them with access control (badges), IT knows about the customers
via CRM, IT knows about suppliers via EDI...

- IT has become an important and sometimes central element of the
enterprise architecture. For example, there are few banks who could
operate without computers (but banks existed before computers, right...)

The ultimate goal of Entreprise Architecture is to help the enterprise
to better know itself in order to define the right strategy to achieve
its goals.

ING change ses services à la baisse et ça m'énerve

Tout fout le camp. J'ai l'impression qu'il y en a pas mal qui sont en train de revoir leurs niveaux de service pour faire face à la crise et conserver leur rentabilité. Du style "pot de Yaourt plus petits au même prix". Le meilleur exemple que j'ai pour l'instant est ING.

Je viens de recevoir coup sur coup plusieurs changements inattendus et embêtants de leur part.

Tout d'abord depuis plusieurs années j'étais content de ma VISA et de mon compte Flexis associé qui me permettait de rembourser mes frais VISA quand je le voulais. En un coup, la collaboration avec VISA s'est arrêtée et j'ai dû prendre une nouvelle... Mastercard avec de nouvelles conditions.

Récement, un premier email nous annonce des changements importants sur les comptes en banque. Il y a toute une série de frais qui se rajoutent. Par exemple, si je vais maintenant retirer de l'argent dans un "self" KBC, je vais payer 50 cents.

Un deuxième email, m'annonce que vu les "problèmes de sécurité sur Internet", les cartes de crédit ne permettront plus de faire des transactions de plus de 650€ par jour. Si l'ont veut plus, on doit prendre rendez-vous à l'agence ! Cela me cause directement un problème par rapport à un cas d'utilisation très important pour moi : acheter des voyages Last Minute sur Internet. Pour deux personnes, même un city-trip ca peux dépasser 650€. Autant payer avec Home-Bank alors... Je supprime ma Mastercard ?

Je peux aussi rajoute que sur un compte Lion "Professionnel" on ne peux pas obtenir d'extraits de comptes ni au self Bank, ni via la poste...

Ça fait de plus en plus de petites contrariétés et, ca n'arrive pas souvent, ça m'énerve.

Je commence à me demander si devrais-je aller visiter une autre Banque ? Ou est-ce une tendance générale du secteur Bancaire ?

7 years to achieve my goal

After 7 years of playing Water-Polo, the game had no secrets anymore for me. I could organize the team when it was disorganized. I could tell the other players what to do. I could influence the team by putting the fastest in the attack and place the others in order to slow down the other team. I had a complete vision on the game: players, rules, tactics, tricks. The only things that I could improve was swimming (more training and less beers) and technique. Look at me scoring a goal on Youtube...

After more than 7 years working on "Middelware" (Portals, ECM, SOA, BPM), I feel I "master" those topics. I know ho to setup a team, how to start, how to make all kind of specifications, scope and estimate the hardware, the software, the project. I know most of the solutions, the competition and the prices. I have a feeling on how much the solution is worth in function of the Business Value...

In 2010 I started new activities in the field of "Digital Reading". I learned about eBooks, eBookStores, newsstands, digital magazines, epub, epaper, the kindle format, Library Systems, iPad Apps, Android... In 2011 I won my first projets and I feel like it's when I was a new Water-Polo player. I enjoy the game but I have not yet all elements in hands. I still need to meet important players, integrate some complex rules, play more matches...

I believe it will take me 7 years to achieve my goal: become a WorldWide expert in the field of Digital Reading (eReading).

Yes, facebook posts as soon as you hit return. Such a good system...easier to post on my blog...
I have a ipad1 and Mireille loves her Samsung Galaxy Tab (10 inches). Both are great !
I manage to do most business stuff on my ipad, even if sometimes I have to email myself my own documents. You ll need a few cheap apps like goodreader to exploit the potential. The ipad is simple to use and configure. You need itunes sometimes but it gives also an automatic backup, to be replaced by icloud in the future.
Since we have the galaxy, i could compare. As a geek I prefer the galaxy (android gives me a better control on whats happening and usb connectivity is better). Also I found a lot of free games for the kids making that they prefer the galaxy (paid games on ipad are free on android, ex : angry birds)
Also i use google a lot so android is better integrated with your google account. Problem with the galaxy 10 inch is that apple coul stopnthe galaxy sales in europe except NL, I think...
There are other tablets out there a good site to compare is tabletcenter.be. They have a shop in Antwerp that you can visit.
If you want cheaper, i would have a look at the chinese huawei but its a 7 inch.

The other things to consider:
- do you want something easy to carry ? Than 7 inches
- want to read a4 documents ? Than 10 inches
- I recommend you to take 3g and Mobile vikings (12 eur/month)
- wifi only and 10 inches, android, look at archos
If you are not sure, you will never be disappointed by a ipad.
The galaxy is very very close but different.

Dans le bus, la sonnette de demande d'arrêt retentit. Le bus stoppe comme demandé. Mais personne ne descend. La conductrice râle en Néerlandais puis en Français.
- on à sonné ! Si quelqu'un s'est trompé, c'est pas grave. Il s'excuse et on continue. Maintenant j'attend que quelqu'un s'excuse avant de répartir.

Personne ne répond. 30 secondes passent. Un jeune s'écrie en Néerlandais.
- allez, celui qui a sonné, dis le ! Je veux arriver à l'heure à mon travail !

Silence.

Encore quelques secondes à l'arrêt.

Finalement le bus continue car sinon il sera aussi en retard. La conductrice grommelle en flamand.

It's good for the health. You walk much more (in the station, between the stop and the office)
It's good for the stress. In the public transport, you have the time to read or to relax your brain.
It's a good social experience. If you want, you can talk to the people. People sometimes ask for help because they are lost. When the train gets stuck, people share their emotions.
It's cheaper than having a car.
It makes you smarter. Finding the best public transport route challenges your mind.

I have just re-logged on an old(er) Ubuntu today to perform 'With linux only possible tasks'.
I had been using that machine for more than a year. After that I had a new one so I don't use it so much now.
What strikes me : the desktop is not optimized to my work anymore.
With time we switch tools, we visit other websites... So if I wanted to use again that machine and be productive I should spend half a day upgrading applications here and there, getting new bookmarks...
Even if you do a lot in the cloud, you want to manipulate your cloud services with toolbars and other small clients.
I realize how much time I spend in keeping our laptops up to date... It's much more than we think.

It's easier to work with people who use the same tools

Some people just think like you some others don't. There is not much to do about it.

Being self-employed obliges me to be much closer to my customers. I notice now the difference between people I'm involved with. I find that it's much easier for me to do business with people who use the same tools than me. So here are the tools :

A lot of Emails
Instant Messaging
Twitter
A good website or blog that you keep up to date
Facebook, which takes more an more 'professional space'

I find it more difficult to stay in touch and make good agreements with the people who don't use those tools.

Note that sometimes I have requests to adopt tools. So that's why after one year of OpenOffice, I had to go back to MS Office because the majority still uses it and want to continue to do so.

2010 : 4545 km of Cycling

Last year I did 4545 km on my bike. About 12 Km a day, 87 a week.

There were 2600 km on my mountain bike, 1384 km on my road bike ("course") and 563 km on my "normal" bike

The greatest moments were

2 times climbing the Mont Ventoux in the same week
One week in the Luberon region in Provence
2 days in Bourgogne
Our prefered transport mean during our mobilhome trip and at the sea side
De Gordel
Last but not least, a lot of Mountain Bike with Eric around many circuits like Houffalize

Manage MP3 ID3 tag information from the command line - Mac OS X Hints: "I hate when I download MP3's (which I of course have copyright permission for ;) and they don't have ID3 tag info. Also, as I am a unix geek, I hate anything I can't script at a command line. Therefore, I had to find a command-line tool to edit and display ID3 info. In my travels, I finally came upon id3tool. Admittedly, there probably are a lot of other tools, but this one was pretty darn easy. I downloaded the source, and used the standard ./configure, make, sudo make install and had it running in less than a minute (I have the latest Dev Tools installed, BTW). I'll e-mail the author and see if he's OK with me posting a binary to my website for this; if so and if anyone's interested, please make it known in the comments here."

So Download id3tool, open a terminal on your mac (macos 10), go to the id3tool folder and type the above commands : ./configure, make, sudo make install...

After that cd to the folder where your mp3 files are.

To change the album name type the following command:

id3tool -a 'Album Name' *.mp3

And done.

Mikko Kosonen completed a Doctor's thesis in Economic Sciences (International Business) and has published several books and articles on strategic management."

I found his speech on Strategic Agility very interesting. He gave examples of IBM which were specially interesting : I have worked 2 years at IBM.

After this speech, here are some of my learning points to achieve strategic Agility :

Strategic Sensitivity

Stay open and Look outside
Work with different people (cognitive difference)

Leadership Unity

As a CEO, break the silos by focusing on Integration meetings rather than (boring) business unit reporting meetings. We have all seen meetings where you politely need to wait finish to report on how great they are and the how difficult it is for them to perform.
Focus on dialogue rather than Debate
"Don't give clear objectives, rather fuzzy objectives". Well I don't agree with that statement. I would rather say : "Give other objectives". At corporate level you should switch from specific "Business" Objectives to "Agility" Objectives, each busines unit being there to find out and achieve its own objectives.

Sometimes it makes sense to have a manager that doesn't understand the business. Mr Kosonen encourages job rotation. Ok but than let's explain the idea and the concept to people reporting to those guys. The idea is again to create dialogue. Because in the field we are all told that we need to understand our customer's business in addition to our own business.

Resource Flexibility

In order to achieve Agility, resources should be pooled and not assigned to a Barony...

Etape l :	Acheter une dinde d'environ 5 kg pour 6 personnes et une bouteille de whisky, du sel, du poivre, de l'huile d'olive, des bardes de lard.
Etape 2 :	Barder la dinde de lard, la ficeler, la saler, la poivrer et ajouter un filet d'huile d'olive.
Etape 3 :	Préchauffer le four a 350, pendant dix minutes.
Etape 4 :	Se verser un verre de whisky pendant ce temps-là.
Etape 5 :	Mettre la dinde au four dans un plat a cuisson.
Etape 6 :	Se verser 2 autres verres de whisky.
Etape 7 :	Mettre le vour a 400 pendant 20 binutes pour la zaisir.
Etape 8 :	Se bercer 3 berres de whisky.
Etape 9 :	Après mettons une debieurre, fourrer l'ouvrir et surbeiller la puisson de la tinde.
Etape 10 :	Brendre la pouteille de biscuit et s'enfiler une bonne rasade derrière la brabate - non - la trabate!
